Check The Attitude, Please!

Image
The last 2 days my mind has been blown away by how God can use the words of others to speak such solid truth that will smack you right in the face. I'm positive it happens more than what I've experienced in the last 2 days, but this case has been particularly overwhelming! First off, let me say that I am FINALLY addressing my life-long issue of terrible sleep habits. I've always said, "I'm just naturally a night owl"...and I am, but that doesn't mean I have to stay up until 4am every night and wake up at 11am feeling just as miserable as when I went to bed. I know, I shouldn't be complaining about waking up at 11am, but it is NOT all it's cracked up to be. Especially when the bedtime that proceeds it is 4am...or later. Lately my excuse for not sleeping has been severe nightmares. A legitimate reason, sure, but still an excuse. Recently I have had an issue with having 4-5 nightmares a night, every one more intense than the last, and I wake up e...

Naturally Skeptic

Image
Lately, I have been looking into what many have, especially these days. I have been trying to convert to more natural living. I am always really careful to take everything I read about natural products with a grain of salt because I believe humans were given the knowledge needed for medicine (which, are often made from plants!) for a reason...even though we often abuse it! I believe everything should be done and taken under doctor supervision, especially if it's supposed to treat something major, like a heart condition. I recently had a woman at a farmer's market who tried to tell me not to take medicine for things like blood pressure and such after I told her I believed herbs and remedies were great for certain things, but others needed more serious treatment. I only mentioned it to her after she told me she had some type of a "medical degree", thinking she might understand my view. Definitely skeptical about what kind of degree... I just kind of nodded, smiled, ...

A Leg Up

Image
In my last post I talked about my mysterious pain in my foot that has left me completely immobile. I've kept it up on pillows, kept lots of ice on it, and have tried to stay off of it for 2 days, without any improvement :( There's still some good news, though! I don't have a blood clot, so that is wonderful! I have to take blood-thinning shots the whole time we're on vacation, as usual, but I'm really excited I don't currently have a clot! We were worried for a little bit that my hematologist wasn't going to let me travel at all, but that fear is gone. She said, "if you have a little clot, you can still go...if it's big, we'll need to talk." Since we're leaving a week from today, that was pretty scary to hear! So She sent me over to immediately have an ultrasound on my leg, and I got the call this morning to let me know there officially was no clot. They said I needed to find an orthopedic doctor now because I could have a torn musc...

No Comprendo

Sorry it has been a while since I posted...I have been working on a post for at least 2 weeks (still working on that one) but it isn't coming along as fast as I'd like, so it's still in "drafts". I can't remember the last time I felt so ridiculous and embarrassed as I have these past 2 weeks. I mentioned in my last post that I had an allergic reaction almost 2 weeks ago where my throat began to close up, but I managed to suck some benadryl down in time, so everything was pretty good as far as that went... She had my arms wrapped in wet, hot towels, wrapped in hot, dry towels, with bags over them to get my veins to pop out for the iv! Well, the next week I had 2 CT scans that had been a PAIN to schedule and one of them had iv contrast involved. Sometimes it is referred to as "iodine contrast". I've had a reaction to it once in the past, but it was incredibly minor and I have had several CT scans with contrast since then with no probl...

Crazy Nights

I have been so proud of how things have been going with my health in the last month! As mentioned in earlier posts, I used to have a lot of my pain at night - especially around 2 or 3 am - and it was really severe. I never get much sleep, but Randy wasn't getting a lot of sleep during this time, and that was a problem. With the exception of one or two nights, I have been doing really well lately! They seem to have found a good combination of meds and things to help me! It has been great :) That all changed starting last Wednesday or so... I had one night where my legs had some pretty severe shooting pains, but it wasn't too bad. ^this is how small they are! Thursday night, I went to the restroom for a second before bed. After that, I suddenly started coughing uncontrollably. It was the kind of "pressured" cough vs. a tickle in your throat or something. So I hurried to the kitchen to grab these pills Dr. P prescribed me for a cough. Normally, they're i...

Beautiful Night

Image
Today has been great, but the night was even better. First of all, I want to take a second to say how incredible my husband is. He is absolutely amazing and I couldn't imagine life with anyone else! I love you, Randy! Thank you for being mine! I am SO thankful for you! So here's how the night went down: First, I messed up my potato soup for the first time ever :( I use a family recipe that my Mema, Mom, and sometimes my Dad always made for me, and it's definitely my favorite. I was originally going to make Ranch house crock pot pork chops and mashed potatoes , but I forgot to defrost the pork chops, and I really didn't have enough time, so I rolled with the punches and started making soup. Randy loooooooves soup, so I knew it would be a winner. Well, somehow I managed to completely mess it up. Well, I know how, but I don't know why it happened because I've made it many times before! I guess I just wasn't paying attention? Most likely. Anyway, so tha...

C O F F E E : Turkish Style

Image
If you love coffee - especially strong coffee - allow me to rock your world. When I say "strong" coffee, I mean STRONG. Like, smack you AND your mom in the face strong. Randy and I had our first date at an Egyptian restaurant - among other places. We went to 4 different places - He had it all planned out! We revisited the same restaurant last year and I had some of their "Turkish Coffee". Whoa baby. You can't drink more than an espresso shot full...MAYBE two. I had two. I'm a glutton for punishment, and strong coffee. I loved it! It was a life-changing experience! Okay, I'm being pretty dramatic, but it is very strong and very good! Anyway, my amazing husband decided to be extra amazing, and he bought me the little pot and special coffee to make my own! Fortunately, the restaurant was selling both for very little. I think it was maybe $15 for both? AND I got them to write down how to make it :) So today I was feeling like coffee would be a ...
